Mindset: Remembering to grow

I can’t remember the first time I heard the phrase “You reap what you sow.” I must have been about 8 years old. Though I’ve always grasped the meaning, at age 33, I’m renewing my resolve to put this knowledge into action.

Growth Mindset vs. Fixed Mindset

Studies have been done on Growth vs Fixed Mindset. I love reading about these studies because they give me insight into why people do what they do. I’m oversimplifying but, in a fixed mindset, you’re told that the qualities you possess are intrinsic “You are so smart!” as opposed to a growth mindset which focuses on decisions and effort, “You worked really hard.”  Continue reading “Mindset: Remembering to grow”

What other people think

I’ve always enjoyed a good “before” and “after” story. The kind where you get to see how successful people get to where they are. This blog is not a before and after story but rather is an “in process” story.

A big part of this blog will involve me identifying parts of my mindset that I need to shift so that I can get the most out of life. I’m sharing these faults/shortcomings with you because you may be struggling with them too (maybe we can help each other).

My biggest mindset pitfall is caring too much about what other people think. There are certain family members who I respect and love so much. Yet, I didn’t realize how their worldview was affecting my actions. They have a set idea of success and it doesn’t align with my future goals. This means that to go in the direction I want to go, I’ll have to disappoint them because it isn’t the life they would have chosen for me. It’s hard.  Continue reading “What other people think”

Hi everyone and welcome! I’m Kathy, a thirty-three-year-old living in the midwest. I created this blog because I’m truly just getting to know myself for the first time. I am learning and growing so much, and I thought, I can’t be the only one out there who is going through this!
